How I went from invisible illness survival mode to balanced without a new identity The stages of my chronic illness went like this Stage 1: - Not knowing I had a chronic illness - Surviving years as a high-achiever who thought everyone felt this wiped out at the end of the day - If things were hard, do more and try harder - Being told “Everything comes so easy to you.” Stage 2: - Exhaustion and pain that I could no longer explain away - Daily flare-ups, insomnia, migraines, and being bed bound for a year - Trying to figure out what’s wrong with me - Feeling like everything I was reaching towards in life was slipping away.
